As a Webflow agency, we’ve handled dozens of projects where clients have faced common form issues, and here’s how we fix them.

The most common Webflow form issues and practical tips for fixing them.

Solving Common Webflow Form Issues

1. Form not submitting submissions

Problem: You filled out a form, clicked the submit button… and nothing happens.

Solution:

  • Make sure your project is published on a custom domain or subdomain Webflow.io forms won’t work on unpublished sites or exported code
  • Check Form Settings > Action URL; if it’s empty, Webflow is using its native form handler.
  • You may have exceeded your sending limit (on free or low-end hosting plans).

2. You are not receiving form notifications

Problem: The form is working, but you are not receiving email notifications.

Solution:

  • Go to Project Settings > Forms and check the email address for notifications.
  • Check your spam folder and whitelist the Webflow form address.
  • If you are using a Gmail account, create a filter rule to avoid missing notifications.
  • Consider using Zapier or Make (Integromat) to send sign-ups to Slack, Google Sheets, or CRM.

3. Submit button is not working

Problem: The button does not trigger the form submission.

Solution:

  • Make sure the button is set to “Submit” and not just a link or div block.
  • Check for conflicting interactions or animations related to the button.
  • Remove unnecessary JavaScript that might be blocking form actions.

4.Error messages displayed after submission

Problem:The form submits but displays a generic error message.

Solution:

  • Review the success and error message blocks within the form wrapper to make sure they are not hidden or missing.
  • Test the form in incognito mode to rule out browser extension conflicts.
  • Check for required form fields, leaving them blank can cause errors.

5. Forms not working on exported sites

Problem: You exported your Webflow site, but the form no longer works.

Solution:

  • Webflow form processing only works on sites hosted by Webflow.
  • If you need forms on an exported site, use third-party form processors like Formspree, Getform, or Netlify Forms.
