My Webflow Project Checklist (What Clients Never Think Of)

Designing and developing a website in Webflow is more than just dragging and dropping elements on a screen—it’s a process that requires planning, structuring, testing, and attention to dozens of tiny details that most clients never see.

Designing and developing a website in Webflow is more than just dragging and dropping elements on a screen—it’s a process that requires planning, structuring, testing, and attention to dozens of tiny details that most clients never see.

So, if you’ve ever thought:

“Isn’t it just about building pages and clicking posts?”The answer is: not really.

To make sure every page I deliver is fast, SEO-optimized, responsive, and scalable, I follow a proven Webflow project checklist full of important steps that happen behind the scenes.

Here’s a look at what it takes to build a high-quality Webflow (and why it matters to your business).

 1.Project Setup and Organization

Before the design even begins, I:

  • Set up proper naming conventions for classes and elements
  • Define global styles (typography, colors, spacing)
  • Logically organize pages and folders
  • Create a style guide page for consistency

Why this is important: Clean organization = easier future updates and faster performance. It also ensures that your site won’t break when you want to scale it later.

 2.SEO Basics

Most clients think SEO comes after the website is built, but smart SEO starts on day one.

  • I set up clean, human-readable URLs
  • I write custom title tags and meta descriptions for every page
  • I optimize image alt text for accessibility and ranking
  • I create and submit an XML sitemap
  • I set up a proper heading hierarchy (H1, H2, H3...)

Why this matters: SEO isn't magic - it's structure. And it's built into every page I create from the ground up

3. Smart Asset Management

To keep your site fast and lean, I:

  • I compress all images before uploading
  • I use modern formats like WebP wherever possible
  • I prefer SVG for icons and logos
  • I avoid uploading unused elements
  • I name files clearly for easy reuse and editing

Why this matters: Page speed = better user experience + higher rankings on Google. Heavy images are the #1 reason websites slow down.

4. Responsive design on all devices

Many creators only test on desktop + mobile. I go further:

  • I fine-tune layout and spacing for tablet, mobile landscape, and mobile portrait modes
  • I check every interaction and hover state via breakpoints
  • I test fonts, buttons, and padding for readability and usability

Why this matters: Over 60% of web traffic is mobile. If your site isn’t responsive, you’re losing visitors.

5. Accessibility and UI Basics

I ensure your site is usable for everyone, including:

  • Alt text for all images
  • Clear color contrast for text readability
  • Proper HTML semantics (lists, buttons, links)
  • Keyboard navigation where needed
  • Logical tab order for accessibility tools

Why this matters: An inclusive site is not only ethically better performing in all areas.

6. Clear Calls to Action (CTAs)

Every page on your site should have a purpose. That’s why:

  • I design strong, visible buttons
  • I create logical user flows from section to section
  • I place clear lead magnets, contact forms, or booking links

Why this matters: A beautiful website is beautiful, but a website with a high conversion rate is better. I build for results, not just for looks.

 7. Quality Testing (What Most Freelancers Skip)

Before launching, I test:

  • All links and buttons
  • Form submissions (success messages, redirects, email delivery)
  • Animations and interactions
  • Scrolling behavior on all screen sizes
  • Fallback options for older browsers or slow connections

Why this matters: One broken form can cost you potential clients. A dropped connection? Lost trust. I don’t let that slip by.

8 . Launch Preparation and Post-Launch Support

Once your site is ready to go live, I:

  • Set up a favicon and social shareable image
  • Connect your custom domain
  • Set up 301 redirects if migrating from an old site
  • Submit your site to Google Search Console

Deliver a video handover or mini tutorial if you want to edit the content yourself

Why this is important: A proper launch ensures that your site is indexed, found, and completely yours from day one.

That’s what I deliver because I follow a checklist most clients don’t even know exists.
