How to Fix 'Discovered, Currently Not Indexed' in Search Console
"Discovered, currently not indexed" means Google knows your URL but has not crawled it yet. Google says it likely held back to avoid overloading your site. To fix it, make the page easy to reach with links and a sitemap, and remove URLs that waste crawling.

Is your Webflow site slow, costly or hard to find?

A page Google has not crawled cannot be indexed. It cannot appear in search results.
This status is not always a problem. Google says crawling a URL it already knows about can take up to a few weeks. Google gives no specific fix for the status.
Google's crawl budget guide is for large sites. It also covers sites where a large share of URLs sit in this status. Google says that if your site is smaller, or pages are crawled the same day they are published, you do not need that guide.
How to check it
- Open the Page indexing report. In Search Console, click the "Discovered - currently not indexed" row in the "Why pages aren't indexed" table.
- Count the URLs. A few new pages is different from a large share of the site.
- Inspect one URL. Use URL Inspection. Google says the last crawl date is empty for this status.
- Check the age of the pages. Pages published in the last few weeks may only need time.
- Check links and sitemap. Is the URL linked from a known page? Is it in yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml?
- Look for waste. In the Page indexing report, look for soft 404s and duplicate URLs.
- Check server health if you suspect it. Google says to check host status in the Crawl Stats report.
How to fix it in Webflow
- Give new pages time. For a URL Google already knows, crawling can take up to a few weeks.
- Check your sitemap. Go to Site settings, then SEO, then Sitemap. Set Auto-generate sitemap to Yes, save and publish. Webflow updates the sitemap each time you publish. In Search Console, open Sitemaps, enter sitemap.xml and click Submit. If a page or CMS item has Sitemap Indexing turned off, Webflow leaves it out of the sitemap.
- Add internal links. Google says every page you care about should have a link from at least one other page. Link new pages from your blog hub and related pages.
- Consolidate duplicates. Google says to consolidate duplicate content so crawling focuses on unique pages. In Webflow, merge the pages and add a 301 redirect. Go to Site settings, then Publishing, then 301 redirects.
- Avoid long redirect chains. Point the old URL straight to the final page. Google says to avoid long chains.
- Handle removed pages properly. Google says to return 404 or 410 for pages removed for good. Fix soft 404s too. Google says they keep getting crawled.
- Block pointless URLs with robots.txt. Google gives duplicate sorted or filtered views as an example. You can edit robots.txt in Site settings, then SEO, then Indexing. Google says not to use noindex for this, because it still requests those pages. Be careful. A wrong rule can block pages you want.
- Make pages lighter. Google says faster response times and efficient page loads let it read more content. Compress images, remove unused scripts and delete unused assets.
- Validate the fix. Once you have fixed every affected URL, open the issue and click Validate fix. Google says validation typically takes up to about two weeks.

FAQ
Is this status an error?
Not necessarily. It means Google knows the URL but has not crawled it. Google says this can take up to a few weeks.
How is this different from "Crawled - currently not indexed"?
With "Discovered," Google has not crawled the page yet. With "Crawled," Google has crawled it but has not added it to the index.
Do I need to worry about crawl budget on a small site?
Usually not. Google says smaller sites, or sites where pages are crawled the same day they are published, do not need its crawl budget guide.
Dealing with this on a live Webflow site? It is the kind of work I do in Webflow SEO and AEO. Send me your site and I will tell you what I would fix first.
